Alex Lowe is an artistic researcher and PhD candidate at the University of Liverpool. His research investigates the role of nostalgia in contemporary popular media through musical borrowing in compositional practice. Musically influenced by plunderphonics, diverse popular traditions, and contemporary classical music, Lowe’s compositions are constructed for immersive environments including surround sound, AV, lighting and more, creating meditative yet hyper-real experiences.
His latest projects involves the digitisation of out-of-copyright 78rpm records held in the IPM Archive for re-use in a new compositional work and an extensive electro-acoustic composition for Ensemble 10:10. Lowe’s compositions have recently been showcased at Commune Liverpool, the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and The Tung Auditorium.
